Genuine legal is currently being reviewed by the ethical board due to their negligence, false advertising, changing prices, and poor representation of clients. They offer discounts to customers willing to give them a good review, and should not be trusted. Spend your money elsewhere, there are plenty of reputable lawyers who will not attempt to extort you and cause undue stress in an already stressful time of your life. Additionally, they will claim you are not a client of theirs, or are just disgruntled when reviewed poorly- this is a clue in of itself as to shady business practices. Do not trust Evgeny.

The Genuine Legal team were able to support me in my family law matters through what has been the most stressful time in my life. They were amazing value for money, given the amount of work that they did and from my limited experience in this field the quality of work was amazing, especially compared with the other party's solicitors. They use an app to keep all materials and communications in one place and it's easy to locate something when you need it on there, and communicate with the solicitors as needed.

The fixed fees costs agreements meant there were no surprises as everything was up front, and the value for money was amazing- I've heard of people spending double or even triple on legal fees for the same amount of work/ time. In my experience they go above and beyond and I felt confident and reassured after every phone call or meeting, and ultimately they supported me in getting the best possible outcome for my children. I was represented by them for parenting matters, but was self-representing for financial and they offered a consultation service (hourly fee) which was very competitive in price compared with other firms, but with the added bonus of having perspective due to handling the parenting matter. I can't thank Jacob, Corben and the team for their assistance in my recent Family Law matter. After spending a significant amount of money with another firm and having them appear for me at two previous hearings, listening to the Court reprimand my lawyer for incorrectly filing material etc, I quickly lost confidence in them. I absolutely hate leaving bad reviews and do not do so lightly but I’ve given Genuine legal plenty of opportunity for it not to come to this. They have been representing me in court for just over a year now. Two months ago I terminated their services as I could no longer afford representation and have since applied for legal aid, whilst representing myself in the meantime. Its been really overwhelming going from having lawyers to having to figure stuff out myself, but my lawyer Nicole assured me that if I had any questions or needed any help I was welcome to reach out through the Basecamp app they use to communicate through. She wished me all the best and told me to let her know the outcome of my case and also informed me there was some money in trust that I had overpaid to be returned to me. It has been two and a half months now since the first time I enquired about this excess money in trust and I still have no idea how much is in there and why it hasn’t been returned to me. I have sent messages through Basecamp and called their office and still have not had the money returned. I even spoke to the principal at genuine legal, Victoria, and gave her my account details after being assured she would sort it out but that was over a month ago. I have since tried to follow up with Victoria in Basecamp to which she has not replied and I’ve called their Brisbane office with the same vague assurances that it would be sorted out. On top of this I’ve also since realised that I can no longer message Nicole on Basecamp as her name is no longer available for me to tag her. It feels like they have just completely shafted me with absolutely no care or thought for my wellbeing now that I am no longer paying for their services. I have been with them through some of the most difficult and stressful periods of my life and it is extremely upsetting to be treated this way by people who know the intimate details of why and can still turn around and treat me so callously. It feels cold and mercenary and also really lazy and/or arrogant… it’s just so unnecessary. I would hate for anyone else to have to experience this. The genuine in genuine legal feels anything but genuine. I haven’t been able to ask any questions and I have no way of letting Nicole know how everything pans out. On top of everything I have going on in my life, I now have to continue to chase them for something that could and should have EASILY been rectified months ago.

If you want a law firm that is on your side, works in the best interests of your children and can be relied on, then go elsewhere. The money spent with Genuine Legal was a total waste and when I raised a concern with them I was told they could no longer represent me. If your matter is simple and your ex is reasonable then they may be fine, but if not, find someone else.

TL;DR - Do not use this law firm!

I have been involved in a dispute regarding choice of schools for my kids. My ex is high conflict with an aggressive lawyer. I engaged Genuine Legal because their fixed fees were 50% cheaper than all other quotes I received. This proved to be a big mistake. GL took months to produce an affidavit, missed the courts filing deadline by 4 weeks, produced a document that was too long, incorrectly structured and riddled with technical errors. Resulting in the court rejecting and disregarding the affidavit at the hearings.

Communicating via their app was terrible, you are often ignored for long periods of time or made to feel like you are a hassle when asking questions. My case was handed from lawyer to lawyer, resulting in having to explain the whole situation again and again. The vague legal advice I was given by the multiple lawyers that worked on my case turned out to be monumentally wrong.

Gl’s performance in court was equally appalling, lawyer seemed out of their depth and inexperienced, they were annihilated by the opposition as a result. The lawyer was unable to explain what was happening effectively to me on the day (I don’t think they knew what was going on). I was also railroaded/pressured into signing orders by consent which my gut told me was the wrong thing to do.

After all this, I decided to seek a second opinion. It was at this point that I found out about the extent of GL’s incompetence handling my case. I switched law firms however It was too late, the damage was done.

As a direct result of all the procedural mistakes and monumentally wrong advice I was given, I have been ordered to pay my Ex’s court costs. An occurrence so rare in family law that I’m told it almost never happens.

Genuine Legal truly proves the old saying ‘If something seems too good to be true, it usually is’.

Pros - Cheap fees in comparison to other law firms - Fees charged in stages - Can pay in instalments

Cons - Incompetent at drafting and producing legal documentation - Incompetent legal advice in the lead up to court - Case being handed from lawyer to lawyer - They are lost on what to do if the matter isn’t settled before progressing to court - Lawyer was like a nervous first year law student in courtroom - Incompetent legal advice on the day in court - Communicating via Basecamp app (this is a personal taste thing) - Quick to contact you if a payment hasn’t been made, slow to respond to your questions - They will add to your already high stress levels
